Overview

Project title: How do Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSAs) influence the attendance of pupils in their schools?

What is it about? / What is the purpose of this study?

Essex County Council Educational Psychology Service would like to find out about your experiences related to pupil attendance in your role as an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant. We would appreciate your help in giving us your views to help us identify if there are themes and trends relating to the influence of the ELSA role on pupil attendance in Essex schools.

We want to find out if the ELSA role does influence attendance. Specifically, what helps children who attend ELSA groups come to school (i.e. the facilitators) and what might hinder children who attend ELSA attending school (i.e. the barriers).

What would you like me to do?

We would like you to invite you to complete a questionnaire regarding this.  It has 15 questions and will take approximately 15 minutes to complete.

Do I have to participate?

You do not have to participate. You can change your mind about participating at any time before or during the questionnaire and you can choose which questions you do and do not want to answer throughout. As the survey is anonymous, we will not be able to remove your responses once submitted as there will be no identifiable link to the respondent.

How will you use what I tell you?

We will complete data analysis on all the questionnaire responses to help us identify key themes relating to the role of the ELSA and its influence on pupil attendance.  We will then produce a report that will be shared with the members of the Educational Psychology Service, Quadrant Teams within the Education Directorate in Essex County Council and the project leads of the Tendring Levelling Up project.

How long will we keep your information?

We will collect this information under our public task in the public interest (our legal basis) and will keep your information for up to 5 years securely and in line with our procedures. The data controller is Essex County Council. The results report will be kept indefinitely for permanent preservation (where all data will be anonymised).
