Early years and childcare practitioners in non-school based settings.

Course description, key stages and target audience

This course is not relevant for practitioners working in school-based settings.

The Essex Safeguarding Children’s Board’s recommended safeguarding course at level 2 is aimed at members of the workforce who work predominantly with children, young people and / or their parents / carers and who could potentially contribute to assessing, planning, intervening and reviewing the needs of a child and parenting capacity where there are safeguarding concerns.

Before taking this level 2 course, you must do the free online Safeguarding Level 1 course. You only need to do the level 1 online course if you have never done any safeguarding training at all.

Course duration

Seven hours including breaks.

Course outcomes

At the end of this course you will:

  • have a sound understanding of different types of abuse
  • be able to describe own safeguarding responsibilities and be aware of the roles and responsibilities of other agencies
  • be able to identify the appropriate child protection processes and procedures when making a referral
  • understand the importance of effective and appropriate information sharing
  • be able to implement the safeguarding and welfare requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage.

Course costs

£67 per delegate for Essex Ofsted registered providers and Essex Family Hubs.

£134 per delegate for Essex local authority and academy / other (school practitioners working within the early years foundation stage in reception classes in maintained, private, independent and academy schools).
