Information Sheet

What it's about?

Essex County Council (ECC) has partnered with Four and Solutions Research to offer a campaign to offer parents and carers of Year 6/7 students resources to have productive, and non-judgemental conversations with their children about vaping and nicotine-based products. This includes a website which offers clear, trusted information about vaping and an AI powered chat tool to offer scenario based conversation about vaping in a way that feels manageable and non-judgemental.

Why is it important we hear from you?

We would like this opportunity to get feedback from you to understand your experience of talking with your child about vaping, how it went, how useful was it using the website and its' resources, and whether you would like additional resources. We also want to understand the impact of the conversation on your child's behaviour and if they were better equipped to say 'no' to vaping in the following year.

What would you like me to do?

  • The Wellbeing, Public Health and Communities team at ECC would like to hear from you where you can chat about your experiences in a one to one online (Microsoft Teams or Zoom) interview.
  • The interview will take 45 minutes to 1 hour.
  • We will offer you an electronic shopping voucher worth £25 as a thank you for taking part.
  • With your permission, we will record (visual and/or audio) our discussion. This is so we can focus on what you tell us without having to take too many notes and to make sure we don't miss anything. If you don't want to, we will not record the discussion and will take notes only.
  • Please click ‘submit’ at the end of this form, otherwise your responses will not be saved.

Do I have to participate?

How will you use what I tell you?

How long will we keep this information?

  • We will collect this information under Informed Consent (our legal basis). The data controller is ECC.
  • Only the ECC research team conducting the interviews will have access to data collected, including any recordings and notes. These will be stored electronically and securely.
  • All data collected, including any recordings and notes, will be deleted after the final report is complete.
  • The report, with all data anonymised, may be kept indefinitely for permanent preservation.

Confidentiality and anonymity

  • Everything you tell us will be kept confidential, and we will not use your name or anything that can identify you in anything we report on.
  • If you disclose anything that indicates a risk of harm to yourself or someone else, we have a duty of care to report this to a relevant professional that will contact you to discuss what further action should be taken. This is the only case where we would break our promise of confidentiality.
