Local Cycling and Walking Routes
Overview
Essex County Council want to improve walking and cycling routes to provide residents with a wider choice of how they travel.
By developing cycling and walking networks, we can make our streets healthier by reducing congestion and improving air quality. They become safer for those who want to walk or cycle aswell as more accessible and easier to move around. Walking and cycling also offer help improve our physical health and wellbeing.
We are doing this several districts at a time, with routes in Braintree, Brentwood, Chelmsford and Colchester being consulted upon first. We aim to consult upon all districts by early 2024. These networks will form a vital part of the Government’s strategy to increase the number of trips made on foot or by bike; and are an important step for Essex to achieve the vision of a safer, greener, and healthier county.
These networks are called Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans or “LCWIP”s and below are four PDF's (one per district) explaining how the networks have been created.
LCWIP Methodology Summary
For any questions you may have about the LCWIP, please see below or email SGH.Routes@essex.gov.uk.
Why your views matter
At this stage we are asking about your views on the shape and extent of the proposed walking and cycling network of routes. The LCWIPs will be split into three different phases, and each phase will focus on a different areas in Essex. This is the first phase will focus on Braintree, Brentwood, Chelmsford, and Colchester.
To help us with planning for future infrastructure, we would like your views including important routes not shown, any secondary routes that should be primary routes and to what extent you agree or disagree with the networks.
If you would like to comment on more than one area, please complete a new survey response for each area.
Thank you for taking the time to do this survey.
