Amalgamation of Canvey Island Infant School and Nursery and Canvey Junior School
Overview
Essex County Council (ECC), together with the governing bodies of Canvey Island Infant School and Nursey and Canvey Junior School, are consulting on a proposal to create a single primary school, under the unified leadership of one headteacher and one governing body. ECC, with the support of the governing bodies, is therefore proposing that the two schools amalgamate to form a primary school for children aged 3 to 11 with effect from 1 September 2026.
Why your views matter
All parties agree that the principle of amalgamating the schools should be explored with the local community. Governors see significant advantages in combining the schools into a single primary school under the leadership of Mrs Townsley, to continue to drive up standards and performance.
