Essex residents voted for change, and Essex County Council is determined to deliver it.

We want to build a council that listens to local people, focuses relentlessly on the issues that matter most, and provides better value for taxpayers. That means being honest about the challenges we face, open about the choices ahead, and clear about where improvement is needed.

As we develop our budget for 2027/28, we want to hear directly from residents, businesses and communities across Essex. Your views will help shape decisions about how council resources are used, the services we prioritise, and the changes we make as we work to reform Essex County Council and deliver the high-quality services residents are entitled to expect.

Essex County Council spends over £3 billion each year on services that support residents, maintain infrastructure and help protect vulnerable people. However, demands for services continue to grow and costs continue to rise.

Like households and businesses across Essex, the council must make difficult decisions about how money is spent. We have a responsibility to ensure every pound delivers value, that waste is reduced wherever possible, and that resources are focused on the priorities that matter most to residents.
