St Botolph's Circus Improvements

Closed 2 Aug 2019

Opened 21 Jun 2019

Overview

St Botolph’s Circus is situated to the south of Colchester Town Centre on the A134 Southway at its junction with St Botolph’s Street, Mersea Road and Magdalen Street. Colchester Town railway station is also situated just off the roundabout.

The roundabout is often congested with traffic and this will continue to worsen if improvements are not made. In addition, pedestrians currently navigate the roundabout via an underpass, which often invites anti-social behaviour.

Essex County Council is committed to improving the area and funding is available to provide improvements for vehicular traffic, buses, pedestrians and cyclists along the A134 Southway corridor and St Botolph’s Circus.

The proposed revisions to the roundabout and junction will look to provide significant capacity enhancements. The revisions will also create a passive area for future improvements in conjunction with other upgrades to Colchester town centre if and when further funding is available.
