Personal Safety Apps

Overview

Women's safety remains a key concern, with many women and girls taking additional steps to help them feel safer in their daily lives. One way some people do this is through the use of personal safety apps, which can offer features such as location sharing, emergency alerts, journey tracking and access to support services.

Safer Essex is carrying out this survey to better understand awareness, experiences and perceptions of personal safety apps. We want to hear from women and girls about whether they have used these apps, which features they find most useful, and whether they believe they help improve feelings of safety and confidence.

The information collected will help us understand how technology is being used to support personal safety and identify any opportunities to improve awareness, accessibility and effectiveness of safety related tools and resources. 

How we use your data

This survey is being conducted as part of a Community Safety Partnership project. Under UK GDPR, we have a legal duty to protect any information we collect from you. Information provided through this survey will only be used for the purposes of this project and will not be kept for longer than necessary, up to a maximum of five years.

We may share information from this survey with the Essex Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner's Office and the National Centre for Violence Prevention and Protection (NCVPP). We will not share your personal details with any other organisation unless we have concerns that you or another individual may be at risk of harm, or where we are required to do so by law. We do not collect personal information for commercial purposes.

Your responses will be treated confidentially and used for research purposes only.

Please note this survey is open to women and girls aged 16+ who live in Greater Essex. We will be working with local youth work organisations to gather the views of those aged 16 and under in a different way.
