Moderate Learning Difficulties: a fresh look at effective assessment and intervention. Booking Request Autumn 2024

Closed 4 Oct 2024

Opened 3 Sep 2024

Overview

This course looks in depth at how to identify and meet pupils’ needs, including those who present as having ‘moderate learning difficulties’, which is often the most frequently-identified SEN category of need in schools, the Local Authority and the UK. It also provides schools with practical tools to ensure they have effective assessment and intervention in place for all children with SEND.

 This training will enable participants to:

  • accurately apply systematic approaches to identifying pupils’ difficulties across different areas of needs, using appropriate assessments (including no-cost ones provided);
  • more fully understand the term ‘moderate learning difficulties’ (MLD) and how this can relate to other broad categories of need, including specific learning difficulties (SpLD), speech, language and communication (SLCN) and social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH);
  • more fully understand the process of learning and learning difficulties in the contexts of neuroplasticity and motivation;
  • know how to use specialist principles and frameworks from Instructional Psychology to assess levels of learning and inform practical, effective teaching and evidence-based interventions;
  • plan how to strategically implement this content in their setting, to strengthen curriculum planning, teaching and learning.
