Overnight Short Breaks for Children with Disabilities - Parent/Carer and Young People Survey

Closed 11 Nov 2022

Opened 10 Oct 2022

Overview

Your views are important to us!

During 2022 Essex County Council will be carrying out a review of the Overnight Short Breaks (OSB) provision and it is vital to us in shaping any future provision that we gather the views of Parents/Carers and of the (ECC) Young People who access the service.

Overnight Short Breaks includes several offers:

  • Internally provided overnights at Lavender House or The Maples
  • Externally provided overnights at Achieving Aspirations (in Bury St Edmunds or Clacton), St Christophers cottage or other providers the Council pays to provide you overnight short breaks
  • Home-based care where a personal assistant attends your home and provides care to a child or young person so their parent carers are able to have an overnight break
  • Family-based care where a short breaks foster carer offers overnight stays in their home

Some engagement was undertaken in April 2022 to find out how you prefer to engage with ECC, and many parents/carers indicated they would prefer the option to give us feedback via an on-line survey. Therefore we have launched this survey to give you the opportunity to tell us about your views on the current service and what we need to consider for any future provision.

If you took part in any interviews around Overnight Short Breaks you are welcome to also take part in this survey but please do not feel obliged.

Your survey responses will be anonymous and will not affect any services you or any of your family receive from Essex County Council.

If you have any questions regarding the survey, please contact us via the Essex Short Breaks Team  Shortbreaks@essex.gov.uk

Why your views matter

Once the wider engagement with families has been completed, full feedback will be provided to all families and young people who access Overnight Short Breaks. This will help us test what we have learnt and to gather feedback on any recommendations for the future provision.
