Overview

We, Essex County Council (ECC) have published the approved Essex Future Library Services Strategy 2019-2024 for provision of library services in Essex over the next five years.

The strategy focuses on two key elements:

  • Developing an investment plan to improve libraries
  • Work with and support community groups or other partners to set up community-run libraries, with the aim of ensuring a library service is retained in every current location.

The strategy commits to supporting community libraries with a universal offer of support.

We hope community organisations will take the opportunity for people, who live and work in the community and who best understand the unique needs of their community, to run services in ways that fit local needs.

If you represent/or would like to form a community group or organisation and are interested in establishing a community-run library in your area please  complete this form letting us know you'd like to learn more about how you can be involved in this process.
