Target audience:

Experienced workers across the children’s workforce who, having been trained in recognising child protection concepts through e-learning or classroom training, get the opportunity for a facilitator led in-depth discussion and analysis of the key aspects of phenomena such as disguised/false compliance, avoidant or resistant behaviour of families/carers.

Learning outcomes:

  • To explore the behaviour of avoidant and resistant families including the nature of disguised compliance and how such behaviour can render the child invisible
  • To understand why parents may engage in resistant behaviour and the part professionals play
  • To recognise how such circumstances may have a paralysing effect on practitioners and impact on practice
  • To review learning from research and serious case reviews in order to better understand the challenges

This course will run from 9.30am to 3.00pm, tea and coffee will be provided but you will need to provide your own lunch.
